Kai Carlo Cenat III, often known as KY, was born on December 16, 2001. He’s a popular American online streamer and YouTuber, renowned for his entertaining live streams and humorous content on YouTube.
As of February 2023, he holds the second-largest following on Twitch, boasting around 7 million devoted fans, a record he secured during a subathon in February 2023, surpassing Ludwig Ahgren’s previous record. Cenat has been honored with the titles “Streamer of the Year” at the 12th Streamy Awards and the 2023 Streamer Awards.
Early Life and Education:
Cenat comes from a family of four siblings, including his younger brother Kaleel, older brother Devonte, and a twin sister named Kaia. He attended Frederick Douglass Academy for high school and graduated in 2019. Later that year, in August, he enrolled at the State University of New York at Morrisville to study Business Administration but had to drop out in 2020 due to the demands of his content creation career.
Career:
Cenat’s journey as a content creator started with his first YouTube video in January 2018, where he explored pranks and challenges. He caught the attention of fellow YouTuber Fanum, who hails from the same Bronx neighborhood, leading to his inclusion in the YouTube group AMP (Any Means Possible). He transitioned to Twitch in February 2021, focusing on gaming and reaction content.
Cenat expanded his horizons by taking on an acting role in the trailer for Polo G’s single “Distraction” in June 2022. He also released his debut single, “Bustdown Rollie Avalanche,” with NLE Choppa on May 8, 2022. Notably, he began featuring celebrity guests on his streams in 2022, including Bobby Shmurda in April, Lil Baby in October, and 21 Savage in November, achieving peak viewership of 283,245 concurrent viewers.
In October 2022, Cenat was nominated for two Streamy Awards, “Streamer of the Year” and “Breakout Streamer,” ultimately winning the former in December.
On January 5, 2023, Cenat faced accusations from TikToker Jovi Pena, who claimed he downplayed and did not assist her after an alleged rape at a New Year’s Eve party he hosted. Cenat responded by explaining that he had contacted the police and his lawyers when he first heard of the incident, opting not to make it public. He also noted that the alleged perpetrator, Djigui Seck, was a longtime friend from high school, and he had no knowledge of the incident or contact with the parties involved since.
