Mariah Carey is once again entangled in a copyright infringement lawsuit related to her iconic holiday song, “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”
According to reports from TMZ, Andy Stone and Troy Powers have filed a lawsuit alleging that there are significant similarities between Carey’s hit and their song, which bears the same title and was purportedly recorded back in 1989.
Stone and Powers contend that their rendition garnered substantial airplay and even secured a spot on the Billboard chart during the 1993 holiday season.

Mariah Carey’s version of the song was officially released in 1994. A 2016 report in The Economist indicated that Carey earns approximately $2.5 million annually from her beloved Christmas classic.
The artist had already amassed $60 million from the song by 2016 and over $72 million by 2021.
Mariah Carey, the annual return of the holiday season often brings renewed attention to her music. Recently, she shared a video declaring the beginning of “Mariah SZN.”
This is not the first time Stone and Powers have taken legal action against Carey. They initiated a similar lawsuit in June of last year, which was later dropped five months later, as reported by People. In their current suit, they are seeking damages of $20 million.
