Gracie Abrams, the 24-year-old singer-songwriter, has recently unveiled her second album, The Secret of Us, featuring a notable collaboration with Taylor Swift on the track “Us.”
To celebrate the album’s release, Abrams shared an eventful video on Instagram showcasing Swift in action, extinguishing a fire in Abrams’ New York City apartment.
The video not only captured the duo’s creative process while writing the song but also Swift’s unexpected heroics in handling a fire emergency.
In the clip, Abrams and Swift are seen discussing how to manage the blaze late into the night, with Swift eventually taking charge of a fire extinguisher.
“Writing this entire song from 2am to 6am was some of the most fun I’ve ever had in my life. @taylorswift now we know how to use a fire extinguisher. I love you,” Abrams wrote alongside the lively footage.
In the video, as the fire incident unfolds, Swift humorously questions how to operate the extinguisher, with Abrams offering guidance.
“You’re going to fire extinguish it,” Abrams advises, cautioning Swift against using water.
Swift, visibly unsure, jokes about the situation, questioning whether she should cut something with a knife to tackle the fire. Despite initial struggles, Swift eventually succeeds in deploying the extinguisher, albeit with some colorful language in the process.
Abrams expressed surprise at Swift’s composure and ability to handle the emergency despite their exhaustion from the late-night songwriting session. “She was such a legend—I don’t know how at this hour or in our state she knew what to do,” Abrams remarked, recalling their shared experience of dealing with the aftermath of extinguisher fumes for weeks.
Abrams also shared insights into how their collaboration with Swift on “Us” came to be, inspired by music from producer Aaron Dessner, a mutual collaborator.
“Something caught our ear at the same time very hard and fast,” she explained. “So we ran to the piano and started writing this song … I used to fantasize about that kind of thing as a kid.”
