Ariana Grande has issued an apology to Cassandra Peterson, the actress best known for her iconic role as horror character Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, following a misunderstanding at a past meet-and-greet.
The incident came to light when Peterson shared on a panel that Grande had requested tickets for her and her family to attend one of her stage shows.
According to Peterson, while she posed for photos and signed autographs for Grande’s friends and relatives, the singer refused to take a picture with her and left before the show began.
In response, Ariana Grande took to Instagram to address the situation, expressing her disappointment at the comments and explaining that she left the event early due to an anxiety attack.
The singer mentioned that she didn’t recall meeting Peterson and that the event likely took place around seven years ago, shortly after the terror attack at her Manchester concert.
“I was really not great with being in public crowds or loud places,” she explained.
Grande apologized to Peterson, acknowledging the possibility of misremembering the moment.
“If I’m misremembering this moment, I sincerely apologise for offending you,” she wrote, adding a heartfelt note thanking Peterson for her kindness toward her mother.
“You’ll always be our queen of Halloween,” Grande signed off, sending love to the actress.
The video of Cassandra Peterson recounting the interaction recently went viral, with a humorous comment made during the panel that Ariana was “playing the wrong witch” in reference to her role as Glinda the Good Witch in the upcoming Wicked film adaptation.
During the promotional tour for Wicked, fan-made edits of the movie’s poster, created using AI, sparked controversy.
One fan edit depicted an animation of Grande and co-star Cynthia Erivo fighting, while another Photoshopped version removed Erivo’s eyes, leading to backlash from the actresses.
Cynthia Erivo condemned the edits, saying, “None of this is funny. It degrades me. It degrades us.”
Grande agreed, stating that fan edits can sometimes go “too far” and emphasizing her deep respect for Erivo.
