Finnish artist Kaarina Kaikkonen’s celebrated public sculpture of donated shirts, previously displayed over Charing Cross in St. Helier, Jersey, is set for a new indoor exhibition.
Titled Dancing Together: A Ballad, the artwork has been adapted for display at ArtHouse Jersey in Capital House, where it will offer an intimate setting to connect visitors with the stories behind each piece of clothing.
The artwork, which repurposes shirts donated by islanders, symbolizes the diverse lives and stories of Jersey’s community.
“I want to use materials that have had a previous life. Then I change it and give it a new life, a new form of art,” Ms. Kaikkonen shared, highlighting her commitment to preserving personal histories within her work.
The exhibition will launch on 31 October, with free admission through 1 December.
In addition to the installation, storyteller Paul Journeaux and musicians Rui Figueredo and Abel Salgado will perform interactive storytelling sessions surrounded by the artwork, enhancing the experience with tales and music that reflect Jersey’s rich cultural tapestry.
