Toy giant Mattel has issued an apology after fans noticed a misprinted website address on the packaging for its new Wicked movie-inspired dolls.
Instead of directing to the film’s official page, the address listed led to an adult website, creating a storm of reactions on social media.
The dolls, based on the characters Elphaba and Glinda from the upcoming Wicked movie starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, were released in anticipation of the film’s November 22 debut.
However, fans quickly pointed out the error, posting photos and reactions online.
A Reddit user, who had purchased the Singing Elphaba doll, shared, “The website printed on the back side [of the] Mattel box, right above the barcode, is… an unaffiliated adult [not safe for work] 18+ website.”
Another fan wrote on social media, “Went to Target and Walmart today and yeah, the Wicked dolls have the [porn] website listed.”
In response, Mattel expressed its “deep regret” over the mistake, advising parents to either discard the packaging or obscure the misprinted link.
The company clarified that the dolls were primarily distributed in the U.S. and stated they are working to prevent further distribution with the incorrect website address.
Customers are encouraged to contact Mattel’s customer service with any concerns.
Wicked, set to release soon, is based on the hit musical and tells the story of Elphaba, who, despite her green skin and misunderstood powers, builds a friendship with Glinda.
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande lead the cast, reprising the iconic roles that have captivated audiences on stage for over two decades.
