Kim Sae-ron, the 24-year-old South Korean actress known for her breakout roles in films and television, has been found dead at her home in the Seongsu-dong district of Seoul.
Police reported that she was discovered by a friend around 16:55 local time (07:55 GMT) on Sunday.
Authorities have confirmed there were no signs of foul play, though they are still investigating the cause of death.
Kim began her acting career at a young age and quickly earned recognition as one of South Korea’s most promising actresses.
She gained international attention with her role in the 2009 film A Brand New Life, which was showcased at the Cannes Film Festival.
Her career continued to flourish with notable performances in South Korea’s highest-grossing film of 2010, The Man from Nowhere, and the 2012 thriller The Neighbour, which earned her several awards.
Other standout roles included the 2014 film A Girl at My Door and her performance in the 2016 television drama Mirror of the Witch.
However, Kim’s career took a significant turn in 2022 when she largely withdrew from the public eye following a drink-driving incident. In April 2023, she was fined 20 million won (£11,000) for the offense.
Her last role was in the 2023 Netflix Korean drama Bloodhounds, though reports indicated that much of her performance was cut from the series due to the incident.
Kim’s tragic passing has left the South Korean entertainment industry in shock, with tributes pouring in from fans and colleagues alike.
