Singer-songwriter David Kushner has canceled his scheduled performance in Manchester, citing ongoing mental health challenges.
The 24-year-old, currently on tour in the UK, shared with fans that the past week has been particularly difficult.
The cancellation follows an emotional moment during his Newcastle show on Friday, where Kushner broke down in tears on stage.
Addressing the crowd, he admitted, “I’m not doing OK mentally. I’m dealing with a lot of anxiety, so I’m so sorry I can’t continue this show. I’m not doing as well as I thought.” The concert was cut short shortly after.
Kushner took to Instagram to express his regret over the Manchester show’s cancellation, writing, “It truly breaks my heart to miss this night with you. I’m so sorry for the disappointment.”
He reassured fans that ticket holders would receive full refunds and stated he is working on his recovery, hoping to return for his Birmingham performance on March 11.
Following his announcement, fans flooded social media with messages of encouragement, praising Kushner for his openness about mental health.
One fan commented that his vulnerability “is enough to tell you what kind of person he is.”
Mental health organizations have also commended the singer for speaking up.
David Smithson from Anxiety UK told BBC Newsbeat, “It’s testimony to him that he’s done so, as it can help other people understand how debilitating anxiety can be.”
Anxiety disorders are becoming increasingly common, especially among young adults.
According to NHS data, 34% of people aged 18-24 reported symptoms of a mental health disorder in 2021/22, a significant rise from 24% in 2000.
Symptoms of anxiety can affect people physically, emotionally, and behaviorally, making daily tasks—such as performing on stage—overwhelming.
The NHS recommends therapy, breathing exercises, and regular physical activity as ways to manage anxiety.
David Kushner gained global recognition in 2022 when his song Miserable Man went viral on TikTok.
He followed up with the 2023 hit Daylight, which amassed 1.4 billion streams on Spotify and peaked at No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart.
The song also topped the charts in multiple countries, solidifying Kushner’s place in the music industry.
Since then, he has performed on Radio 1’s Live Lounge and at major venues worldwide.
As Kushner takes time to focus on his well-being, fans remain hopeful for his return to the stage, offering unwavering support for the singer’s journey toward recovery.
