David Kushner has announced the cancellation of the remainder of his UK and Europe tour, citing mental health struggles.
The Daylight singer, 24, had already scrapped his Manchester concert on Monday evening and has now decided to step back entirely.
“I’ve done everything I can to keep going, but right now I need to step back and focus on getting better,” David wrote on Instagram.
The Chicago-born artist had planned performances in Birmingham, Bristol, London, and Dublin, followed by stops in Lithuania and Belgium.
However, on Friday night, he broke down in tears on stage in Newcastle, telling fans he was struggling with severe anxiety before cutting the show short.
“I’m not doing OK mentally,” he admitted to the crowd.
David’s team will now be reaching out to ticket holders with information on potential rescheduled dates and refunds.
“I won’t be able to finish the tour, and that’s not something I wanted to say. This decision was difficult, and I hate letting you down,” he added.
Anxiety is described by the NHS as “a feeling of fear or unease,” which can manifest in various physical, mental, and behavioral symptoms.
Statistics show that in 2021/22, 34% of young people aged 18 to 24 reported experiencing a mental health disorder, such as depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder—up from 24% in 2000.
Charity Anxiety UK praised David’s decision to speak publicly about his struggles.
“It’s testimony to him that he’s done so, helping others understand how debilitating anxiety can be,” said spokesperson David Smithson.
The NHS recommends speaking to a therapist, practicing breathing exercises, and engaging in regular physical activity to help manage anxiety symptoms.
David has expressed gratitude to fans for their support, with many praising his honesty.
“Sharing each of these moments with you each night means everything to me,” he said.
The musician, who has nearly 16 million monthly listeners on Spotify, gained widespread recognition when his song Miserable Man went viral on TikTok in 2022.
His follow-up hit, Daylight, has since amassed 1.4 billion Spotify streams, peaking at number two on the UK singles chart and topping charts worldwide.
He has also performed on Radio 1’s Live Lounge and in stadiums across the globe.
