Bain, a member of the K-pop boy group Just B, has publicly come out as part of the LGBT community, marking a bold and heartfelt moment in an industry known for its stringent control over artists’ personal lives.
The 23-year-old made the announcement during a solo performance at a concert in Los Angeles, receiving thunderous applause from fans in attendance.
In a video posted to his social media after the show, Bain — whose real name is Song Byeong-hee — directly addressed the LGBTQ+ community and those on their journey of self-discovery.
“To anyone out there who’s part of the LGBT community, or still figuring it out – this is for you guys,” he said.
“You are seen, you are loved, and you were born this way.” He then launched into a powerful rendition of Lady Gaga’s Born This Way, calling the pop icon “my queen.”
His emotional revelation drew praise from fans and bandmates alike.
Fellow Just B member Siwoo shared that he was moved to tears, stating, “I know how hard it was for him, and that made me want to cry more.”
Social media has since been flooded with messages of love and support. “You are so loved.
So proud to be your fan. Be proud of who you are,” one fan wrote on Instagram. Another echoed the sentiment, saying, “We love you so much and are so proud of you for being yourself.”
Formed in 2021, Just B is a six-member group that has released five EPs and several singles. Bain’s coming out adds to a small but growing list of K-pop idols who have made similar declarations.
In recent years, artists like Lara from Katseye and Jiae from the former girl group Wassup have also shared their sexual orientations with fans.
While homosexuality is not illegal in South Korea, societal stigma persists, and same-sex marriage remains unrecognized.
A 2022 Human Rights Watch report described LGBT discrimination in the country as “pervasive.”
Bain’s decision to come out publicly, particularly while on an international stage, is seen by many as a courageous move toward broader acceptance and visibility in the world of K-pop.
