Rising genre-fusing artist Laurel Smith has shared her new single ‘LIKE THAT’ today, stream here and watch here.
Produced by Jay Flew, mixed by Manon Grandjean (Flo, AJ Tracey, Cat Burns) and mastered by Matt Colton (FKA Twigs, Blood Orange and Aphex Twin), ‘LIKE THAT’ is another testament to Laurel’s endless and effortless creative approach to music and genre. A kinetic blend of stuttering electronics, grooving hip-hop beats and glistening hyperpop synths, the outcome is euphoric when partnered with Laurel’s tender vocal and honest lyrics.
LIKE THAT is about the experience of having a friend that struggles with their mental health. It’s a sad but heartfelt love song, showing how depression not only hurts the person dealing with it, but also the people who are the closest to them – Laurel Smith
Twenty-year-old Laurel Smith is a North London born and raised artist and producer. Since beginning her journey as a songwriter at the age of sixteen, she has been combining elements of moody pop, hip-hop and electronic synths to create her unique and current sound that’s quickly garnered support from tastemakers including The Line of Best Fit, CLASH, Notion, Upset and Dork.
LIKE THAT Lyrics – Laurel Smith
You broke your world apart
That’s when you broke my heart
Do the same shit
Drive the same broke down car
That’s just the way you are
You said you fit the part
On my last legs just to make you smile
That’s the issue
Don’t wanna miss you
Turning red when she was blue
There’s a ghost in your head
Demons in your bed
This is the place I remember you said
I don’t wanna do this no more
I don’t see colour no more
Black and white feelings no love no more
So what’s it all for
I don’t wanna do this no more
I don’t see colour no more
Black and white feelings no love no more
So what’s it all for
Like that like that
Why you gotta do me like that like that
When you see me and you say it like that like that
Now it’s like that like that it
Like that like that
Like that like that
Why you gotta do me like that like that
When you see me and you say it like that like that
Now it’s like that like that it
Like that like that
She said it’s too hard
I’m on close guard
Midnight thoughts
Don’t take this too far
She got soul scars
Hidden the dark
She doesn’t see it but I know where they are
The issue
Want you to miss you
School picture on the wall yeah that’s still you
There’s a ghost in your head
Demons in your bed
This is the place I remember you said
I don’t wanna do this no more
I don’t see colour no more
Black and white feelings no love no more
So what’s it all for
Like that like that
Why you gotta do me like that like that
When you see me and you say it like that like that
Now it’s like that like that it
Like that like that
