Cory Hunter Asbury, an American Christian musician, worship pastor, songwriter, and former Bethel Music collective member, has had a remarkable musical journey. He began as an intern with the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, Missouri, in 2005. Asbury’s musical career took off when he collaborated with Matt Gilman, leading to the release of their album “Holy” in 2008. Subsequently, he released his first solo album, “Let Me See Your Eyes,” in 2009 under Forerunner Music. During his time with IHOPKC, he contributed to various albums, featuring songs like “Where I Belong,” “Shekinah,” “All Is for Your Glory,” and “Holy Ghost Party.”
In 2012, Asbury moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to join New Life Church as an associate worship pastor, also becoming a part of the Desperation Band and New Life Worship ensembles.
In 2015, he signed with Bethel Music and made his first appearance with the Collective on “Have It All” (2016). However, it was with the release of “Reckless Love” in late 2017 that Asbury gained more recognition. The song became a hit single and paved the way for his breakthrough second full-length album, also titled “Reckless Love,” released in early 2018.
The album achieved commercial success, charting in the United States and internationally. Notably, “Reckless Love” earned a nomination for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song at the 2019 Grammy Awards. Asbury’s third studio album, “To Love a Fool,” followed and was released on July 31, 2020, featuring the singles “The Father’s House,” “Sparrows,” and “Dear God.”
Born on October 15, 1985, Cory Asbury’s passion for music began in his childhood, growing up in North Carolina. He started leading worship at his local church when he was seventeen. After graduating from Franklin High School in 2004, he initially considered studying at UNC Chapel Hill. However, he decided to attend the Onething internship at IHOPKC in Kansas City, where he embarked on his musical journey from January 1, 2005.
During his time in Kansas City, Asbury’s musical presence grew with the release of albums like “Holy” and “Let Me See Your Eyes.” He was also featured on various IHOPKC albums such as “Where I Belong” and “Joy,” making an impact on the Billboard charts.
Asbury’s contributions to the music industry, both as part of IHOPKC and Bethel Music, have solidified his position as a prominent figure in Christian music, capturing the hearts of listeners worldwide.
