Fearless is the debut extended play (EP) by Le Sserafim, a South Korean girl group under Source Music. Released on May 2, 2022, the EP comprises five tracks, with the lead single sharing the same title. Notably, Fearless marks the only release featuring Kim Ga-ram, who was later removed from the lineup on July 20, 2022.
The journey of Fearless began on March 14, 2022, when Source Music announced the upcoming debut of a new girl group in collaboration with Hybe Corporation. Hybe Corporation confirmed the group’s debut in May, one week later.
On April 13, it was revealed that the group’s debut EP, Fearless, would be released on May 2. The tracklist, including the lead single “Fearless,” was unveiled on April 25, followed by the release of a highlight medley video two days later. The music video teasers for the lead single were subsequently released on April 29 and May 1.
Fearless showcases a blend of alternative pop, disco-funk, and R&B across its five tracks. The opening song, “The World is My Oyster,” features a strong rhythm and psychedelic mood akin to a fashion show runway. The lead single, “Fearless,” is a funk and alternative pop anthem with lyrics centering on the idea of moving forward without being hindered by the past.
“Blue Flame,” the third track, presents a disco-punk sound with a sophisticated melody and enigmatic atmosphere. The fourth track, “The Great Mermaid,” offers a unique perspective, retelling The Little Mermaid fairytale from the viewpoint of Le Sserafim. Lastly, “Sour Grapes,” the final track, draws inspiration from Aesop’s The Fox and the Grapes fable, delving into themes of love, curiosity, and self-value.
The EP garnered significant pre-order success, surpassing 380,000 copies before its release. On the day of its launch, Fearless sold over 175,000 copies, setting a new record for first-day album sales by a girl group, previously held by Kep1er’s First Impact with 150,000 copies.
Upon its release, Fearless achieved notable chart success. It debuted at number two on South Korea’s Gaon Album Chart for the issue dated May 1–7, 2022. On the monthly chart for May 2022, it secured the fifth spot with 412,696 copies sold.
On Billboard Japan Hot Albums, Fearless took the top spot in the chart for May 11, 2022. Additionally, it debuted at number three on the Oricon Albums Chart for the issue dated May 16, 2022, and ranked ninth on the monthly chart for May 2022 with 32,998 copies sold. The EP also made an entry on the Hungarian MAHASZ Top 40 Album Chart, debuting at number 37 for the issue dated May 20–26, 2022.
In celebration of the EP’s release, Le Sserafim hosted a live showcase to introduce Fearless and connect with their fans. During the event, the group performed the lead single “Fearless” and “Blue Flame.
