The album’s journey began with an initial plan to release it by the end of 2019, as Lil Baby disclosed in October 2019. However, due to unforeseen delays, the release was postponed until January 2020. Lil Baby’s Instagram Live session served as a platform to reveal the album’s title and its significance: “I called it My Turn ’cause I feel like everybody else had a lil’ turn. It’s my turn now. Everybody dropped their mixtapes, their albums – go number 1, number 2, number 3.”
