“Talk Dirty” represents the re-release of the third studio album “Tattoos” (2013) by American singer Jason Derulo. This release specifically targeted the United States audience, as “Tattoos” had been introduced in the country solely as a 5-track EP.
Arriving approximately seven months after the original version, this extended album incorporates seven tracks from the international release, alongside four freshly recorded songs. Warner Bros. Records delivered the album on April 15, 2014. The additional content on this album was crafted through collaborations with familiar figures like Ricky Reed, Jim Beanz, Timbaland, Sam Sumser, Chloe Angelides, Cirkut, and DJ Mustard. These new compositions maintain the fusion of hip-hop, pop, and R&B genres showcased in the original album. Moreover, the expanded “Talk Dirty” includes innovative partnerships with rap artists Kid Ink, Snoop Dogg, and Tyga.
The track “Wiggle,” featuring American rapper Snoop Dogg, emerged as a new single, marking the fourth release from this re-issued album. The corresponding music video for the single was filmed on April 14, 2014, under the direction of Colin Tilley.
“Talk Dirty” received visibility through the Tattoos World Tour and live presentations on esteemed platforms like The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Dancing With the Stars, and the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. Alongside the standard eleven-track version, a Target-exclusive edition featuring two bonus tracks from the original “Tattoos” was concurrently launched. Internationally, the Special edition of “Tattoos” encompassed all the fresh recordings.
In its initial reception, “Talk Dirty” garnered a range of reviews from music critics, with some expressing reservations about the explicit sexual themes and lyrics prevalent across the album. On the other hand, others commended Jason Derulo’s vocal advancement evident in select tracks.
Officially entering the scene, “Talk Dirty” made its debut at the respectable fourth position on the US Billboard 200 albums chart, recording the sale of 44,000 copies during its inaugural week. This figure exceeded predictions by 10,000 copies, marking Derulo’s inaugural top-five album and his highest-charting record in the US to date, surpassing the achievement of his debut studio album “Jason Derulo” by a margin of 1,000 copies.
