Alicia Keys recently found herself at the center of a social media controversy that falsely linked her to Palestinian militant group Hamas.
The Grammy Award-winning singer and pianist denied these allegations, emphasizing the misinterpretation of her social media post.
On October 16, Alicia Keys took to Instagram with a post in which she expressed her desire to conquer paragliding as a means of overcoming her fears.
The post, now deleted, innocently inquired, “What would u do if you weren’t afraid of anything??? Tell me your truth… I’ve had my eyes on paragliding.”
Unfortunately, the timing of her post coincided with the ongoing and devastating conflict between Israel and Hamas, adding an unintended layer of complexity.
Israel declared war on Hamas on October 7 following an unprecedented attack, resulting in over 1,300 casualties in Israel. In retaliation, Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have taken more than 1,500 lives.
Hamas has been known to use powered paragliding in their attacks on Israel, which led some individuals to mistakenly assume that Alicia Keys’ post was a show of support for the militant group’s tactics. This misinterpretation quickly spread across social media platforms.
To address the growing controversy, the “Diary” singer took to her Instagram Stories to clarify her stance.
She affirmed that her paragliding post was entirely unrelated to the recent tragic loss of innocent lives and vehemently stated, “My heart has been breaking… I pray for and stand for peace.”
Alicia Keys is not the only celebrity to comment on the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Many others have offered statements of support or prayers for those affected by the ongoing violence.
However, a different approach was taken by DJ Vlad, who recently called out Drake and DJ Khaled for their silence regarding the territorial war.

DJ Vlad pointed out the silence of Drake, a famous Jewish figure, and DJ Khaled, a prominent Palestinian-American, regarding the Gaza-Israel conflict.
He questioned their lack of response and suggested that they should use their influence to address the issue.
He noted that while Drake has been vocal about other topics, he has not commented on the conflict. Similarly, DJ Khaled, known for his music and business endeavors, has not used his platform to speak out on the issue.
DJ Vlad suggested that both artists might be hesitant to take a stance on the conflict, fearing backlash from a segment of their fanbase. He argued that artists of the past, like 2Pac, would have spoken out on such a significant issue.
