The Backstreet Boys, often abbreviated as BSB, are a renowned American vocal group. Comprising members Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, and cousins Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson, the group’s journey began in 1993 in sunny Orlando, Florida.
International Stardom with Albums
Their path to fame was marked by the release of their international debut album, “Backstreet Boys” in 1996. The following year saw the launch of their second international album, “Backstreet’s Back” (1997), alongside their self-titled U.S. debut album, “Backstreet Boys” (1997). These albums solidified their global success.
Superstar Status with “Millennium”
The pinnacle of their career came with the release of their third studio album, “Millennium” in 1999. Anchored by the iconic hit “I Want It That Way,” this album catapulted them to superstardom. The subsequent album, “Black & Blue” (2000), continued their success. A greatest hits album, “The Hits – Chapter One” (2001), followed.
The Evolution Continues
After a brief hiatus, they regrouped and released the comeback album, “Never Gone” (2005), and concluded the “Never Gone Tour” in 2006. Post this tour, Kevin Richardson pursued other interests, temporarily leaving the group. However, they carried on as a quartet, releasing “Unbreakable” (2007) and “This Is Us” (2009).
Reunion and Recent Achievements
In 2012, Richardson permanently rejoined the group. The following year marked their 20th anniversary, celebrated with the release of their first independent album, “In a World Like This.” Their latest album, “DNA” (2019), debuted at number one, over two decades since their formation and 19 years since their last chart-topping album. They made history by becoming the first boy band to top the U.S. album charts in three different decades. In 2022, they added a festive touch with their first Christmas album, “A Very Backstreet Christmas.” Their 30th anniversary was celebrated on April 20, 2023.
Record-Breaking Sales and Achievements
The Backstreet Boys have set records with over 100 million records sold worldwide, earning them the title of the best-selling boy band in history and one of the world’s top music artists. They are the first group since Led Zeppelin to have their first ten albums reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart, a feat unmatched by any other boy band. Notably, the albums “Backstreet Boys” and “Millennium” both achieved diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), making them one of the few bands with multiple diamond albums.
Hollywood Walk of Fame and Beyond
The group received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on April 22, 2013, just two days after their 20th anniversary. Additionally, they released a documentary film titled “Backstreet Boys: Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of” in January 2015. March 2017 marked the beginning of their two-year Las Vegas residency, titled “Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life.”
