Early Days:
Briston Maroney’s journey into the world of music began in the heart of Knoxville, Tennessee. His remarkable talent didn’t go unnoticed as, at the tender age of 15 in August 2013, Maroney auditioned for the 13th season of American Idol during one of its audition stops in Knoxville. His awe-inspiring audition caught the attention of the show’s judges, and he was subsequently invited to audition before them in Salt Lake City. It was there that Maroney mesmerized the audience with his rendition of The Rolling Stones’ classic, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” captivating viewers when it aired in January 2014. While the judges were impressed and advanced him to Hollywood, his American Idol journey concluded at the semi-final stage.
Musical Ventures:
Maroney’s passion for music extended beyond solo performances. He played a pivotal role in the bluegrass band Subtle Clutch from 2013 to 2015. The band embarked on a musical journey that began with street corner busking in Knoxville, ultimately gracing stages such as Dollywood, The Square Room, and the WDVX Blue Plate Special. They even left their mark on music festivals like Knoxville’s Rhythm N’ Blooms.
Education and Career:
Continuing to pursue his musical aspirations, Maroney enrolled at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he delved into the art of music.
In 2015, Maroney took his first steps into the music scene by independently releasing his debut EP, “Reason to Shake.”
The year 2017 marked another milestone in Maroney’s career as he independently launched his EP titled “Big Shot.” In 2018, he tantalized his growing fan base with fresh tracks like “Under My Skin,” “I’ve Been Waiting,” and “Freakin’ Out on the Interstate.” These captivating tunes found their place on his inaugural EP in collaboration with Canvasback Music and Atlantic Records, aptly named “Carnival,” which saw the light of day in November 2018. One of these tracks, “Freakin’ Out on the Interstate,” even achieved the prestigious Gold certification from RIAA in 2021. March 2019 witnessed Maroney’s debut appearance at South by Southwest, and he also had the privilege of opening for notable acts like Liz Cooper & The Stampede and Wallows during their respective tours that year.
