Cafuné, the captivating American indie pop duo, is a harmonious blend of Sedona Schat’s melodic prowess and Noah Yoo’s production wizardry. Their enchanting journey began in 2014 when fate united them at the illustrious New York University.
Noah Yoo, a native of Fairfax, Virginia, spent his formative years serenading the world with the violin before graduating to the guitar as a high school band virtuoso. His rendezvous with Sedona Schat in 2012 at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute was serendipitous. Their shared passion for the music of Two Door Cinema Club kindled a creative spark.
Sedona Schat, hailing from Gardnerville, Nevada, carved her own path to musical stardom. Her roots trace back to the renowned Schat’s Bakeries dynasty on the west coast. Before her sojourn to New York for college, Sedona’s talent for music was already celebrated through local performances.
In their sophomore year at NYU, Noah Yoo breathed life into one of Sedona’s songs, and Cafuné was conceived as a shared project. This musical collaboration flourished when Yoo temporarily lived with Schat. Simultaneously, Yoo contributed to the music world as a staffer for Pitchfork. The dynamic duo also had the privilege of attending a Masterclass session with the iconic Pharrell Williams alongside fellow Clive Davis Institute students, an experience etched in their musical journey in 2016.
Cafuné’s enchanting voyage embarked with their debut single, “Letting Go,” in 2014. A year later, their debut EP, “Love Songs for Other People,” enchanted listeners with its melodies. The magnum opus, “Running,” their debut album, was a labor of love meticulously crafted at their homes over several years. Amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, they transformed their passion into music, culminating in the album’s release on July 20, 2021, under their own label, Aurelians Club. The ethereal track “reconsider” received its magic touch from Kyle Pulley at Headroom Studios. The album boasted soul-stirring singles such as “High,” “Want Me Out,” and the sensational “Tek It,” which took TikTok by storm in early 2022, resonating through anime edits and trends on the platform. The viral success paved the way for Cafuné’s signing to Elektra Records in June 2022, marking a milestone in their career. Their talents graced the stage as they opened for Chvrches on their summer 2022 tour, captivating audiences with their enchanting melodies and captivating performances.
