Christopher North Pack, a founding member, guitarist, and primary vocalist of the band Ambrosia, has left an indelible mark on the music industry. His exceptional contributions as a performer and producer have led to the global sale of over forty million units of his work. Notably, Pack’s gifted songwriting and vocals have graced Ambrosia’s chart-topping hits, including the certified gold singles “Biggest Part of Me” (1980), “You’re the Only Woman (You & I)” (1980), and “How Much I Feel” (1978). Furthermore, he co-wrote and lent his lead vocals to the band’s first top 20 hit, “Holdin’ on to Yesterday” (1975).
Beyond Ambrosia, Pack’s talent has been sought after, evident from his collaboration with Kerry Livgren on the song “Ground Zero” for Livgren’s 1980 solo album, Seeds of Change, and his participation in Kansas’ Vinyl Confessions album in 1982. Notably, he also contributed his guest lead vocals to “Shine On,” featured on Mastedon’s album, It’s a Jungle Out There!, produced by former Kansas lead singer John Elefante and his brother Dino Elefante.
Pack’s solo career in the 1980s brought forth the successful Anywhere You Go LP in 1985. The album produced three charting singles, with “I Just Can’t Let Go” (US AC #13) being the most prominent, thanks to a collaboration with Michael McDonald and James Ingram. Additionally, his duet with Bette Midler, “I Know You by Heart,” featured in the film Beaches and its accompanying soundtrack, showcased Pack’s versatility as an artist.
The talented musician’s artistry extended beyond performing as he co-wrote and showcased his instrumental prowess on several tracks for Alan Parsons, notably on Parsons’s 1993 album Try Anything Once and 2004 album A Valid Path. It’s noteworthy that Pack’s journey intertwined with Alan Parsons through Ambrosia’s first album, engineered by Parsons, and their collective involvement in the first Alan Parsons Project album, Tales of Mystery and Imagination. Moreover, he joined Alan Parsons for a memorable live tribute tour titled “A Walk Down Abbey Road” in 2001, dedicated to the timeless music of the Beatles.
