Deitrick Vaughn Haddon, born on May 17, 1973, is a notable American gospel singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, record producer, pastor, and actor. His prominence lies in pioneering progressive gospel and contemporary music styles. Additionally, he’s recognized as a cast member of Oxygen’s reality TV series, Preachers of L.A.
Haddon initiated his solo career as a Christian R&B vocalist by releasing Lost & Found on Tyscot/Verity in 2002. This album achieved a remarkable feat, securing the top spot on Billboard’s Top Gospel Charts. It garnered extensive critical acclaim and birthed the hit track “Sinner’s Prayer,” receiving substantial airplay on both gospel and mainstream R&B radio stations.
In 2004, Haddon followed with Crossroads, which exhibited influences from the 1970s era. The album’s upbeat lead single, “God is Good,” set the tone. In an unusual strategy for gospel promotion, Haddon even graced the renowned syndicated series, Soul Train, performing the title track and single from the album.
With the release of 7 Days on October 10, 2006, Haddon seemed to be pushing his gospel artistry into mainstream avenues. Notably, R&B producers Tim & Bob played a significant role in producing the album. The album’s contemporary vibe was balanced by the traditional gospel-flavored lead single, “Heaven Knows,” which Haddon took charge of producing.
Haddon, along with his brother Gerald, lent their production skills to Vanessa Bell Armstrong’s comeback album, Brand New Day. Deitrick Haddon & Voices of Unity’s album, Live the Life, earned recognition at the Gospel Music Workshop of America Excellence Awards, winning in the categories of “New Artist of the Year—Urban Contemporary” and “Album of the Year—Urban Contemporary.”
September 2, 2008, saw the release of Haddon’s album, Revealed, which featured the popular single “Love Him Like I Do,” a collaboration with Mary Mary and Ruben Studdard. On July 27, 2010, Haddon made his cinematic debut in the direct-to-DVD film, Blessed and Cursed.
Church on the Moon, Haddon’s fifth album under Verity Records, launched on January 25, 2012. The album secured the top position on Billboard’s Top Gospel charts and reached No. 65 on the Billboard 200.
Notably, Haddon is an integral part of the reality TV show Preachers of L.A., which chronicles the lives of six Los Angeles preachers, including Haddon himself. Premiering on October 9, 2013, the show airs on the Oxygen network in the United States.
