Emanuel Herrera Batista, professionally known as El Alfa El Jefe or simply El Alfa, is a Dominican rapper acclaimed as “The King of Dembow.” Born on December 18, 1990, in Bajos de Haina, Santo Domingo, El Alfa gained fame in the early 2010s for his distinctive voice and initial afro hairstyle.
Notable tracks from this era include “Tarzan,” “Coche Bomba,” and “Muevete Jevi.” His collaborations with artists from Puerto Rico, including Nicky Jam, Farruko, and Myke Towers, propelled him into the spotlight. In December 2018, El Alfa orchestrated one of the most significant dembow collaborations by releasing the “Suave (Remix)” featuring Chencho Corleone, Bryant Myers, Miky Woodz, Jon Z, and Noriel.
El Alfa’s influence continued to expand as he partnered with global icons like Cardi B, J Balvin, Pitbull, Tyga, and Black Eyed Peas. In February 2021, his track “Singapur” surpassed 200 million streams.
With over 15.5 million monthly Spotify listeners and a global ranking of #164, El Alfa is a pivotal figure in the Dominican dembow genre, recognized as its leader.[citation needed]

2008–2013: Early Career and Dembow Success
At 17, Batista became self-sufficient, breaking free from his family. His childhood aspiration of becoming a barber gave way to a different path.
In 2008, he embarked on his music journey, teaming up with fellow Dominican Dembow artist Eddy Wilson. Their brief partnership yielded street-oriented dembow tracks like “El Fogon” and “Conmigo No.” Their duo ended in 2009 as both chose solo careers.[citation needed]
Batista’s solo debut came in 2009 with “Coche Bomba,” a track that made waves in the Dominican Urban scene, solidifying his identity as El Alfa El Jefe. He followed it up with “Coco Mordan” in 2010, showcasing his signature high-pitched voice against a hard-hitting beat. In 2011, he found moderate success with year-end releases “No Wiri Wiri” and “Agarrate Que Te Solté.”
However, his breakthrough as a rising regional superstar came in 2012 with tracks like “Cacao,” “Con To’ Lo’ Cascabeles,” and “Muevete Jevi.” The latter remains a chart-topper, amassing over 3 million Spotify streams in recent years.
These tracks were consolidated into the 2013 album “Dembow Exitos,” a 10-song collection embodying El Alfa’s trademark style: vigorous beats, his distinctive high-pitched voice, and production support from Nico Clinico, Bubloy, El Kable, and fellow Dominican artist Chimbala.[citation needed]
El Alfa’s popularity escalated with the release of “Fuin Fuan” in April 2013, continuing his fast-paced dembow sound with DJ Patio’s touch. That year, he forged significant partnerships, performing “Humo Excúsame (Remix)” with Musicologo The Libro and “Tú Me Gusta Pila” with Puerto Rican artist Farruko. This collaboration marked a pivotal moment in El Alfa El Jefe’s career, shaping his trajectory for years to come.
