Evanescence, the American rock band hailing from Little Rock, Arkansas, came into existence in 1995, founded by the remarkable singer and musician Amy Lee alongside guitarist Ben Moody.
Their journey began with the creation of independent EPs as a duo in the late 90s, and the production of a demo CD. In 2003, Evanescence took a significant step by launching their debut studio album, “Fallen,” under Wind-up Records.
This album’s success soared, thanks to hit singles such as “Bring Me to Life” and “My Immortal,” propelling “Fallen” to sell over four million copies in the US by January 2004. Their achievements didn’t stop there, as the band received two Grammy Awards out of six nominations. In 2004, they added another milestone to their journey with the release of their first live album and concert DVD, “Anywhere but Home,” which resonated with fans worldwide, selling over one million copies.
The evolution of Evanescence continued with the unveiling of their second studio album, “The Open Door,” in 2006. Co-composed by Amy Lee and guitarist Terry Balsamo, this album garnered a Grammy nomination and reached over six million copies sold globally. A significant turning point came in June 2009 when the band regrouped to work on music for their forthcoming album. The lineup was strengthened with the addition of touring guitarist Troy McLawhorn, bassist Tim McCord, and drummer Will Hunt as full-time members.
In 2011, Evanescence presented their third studio album, also self-titled, “Evanescence.” This release showcased their musical prowess by debuting at the top of various Billboard charts, including the Billboard 200, Rock Albums, Digital Albums, Alternative Albums, and Hard Rock Albums charts. After completing the album’s tour cycle, the band entered a brief hiatus.
Fast forward to 2014, Amy Lee and Evanescence made a significant move by parting ways with their record label to embrace independence as artists. In 2015, the band made a triumphant return to the stage with tours while simultaneously focusing on new music. In late 2016, Amy Lee hinted at a forthcoming fourth album, “Synthesis” (2017). This unique project featured orchestral and electronica arrangements of their previous material, accompanied by two new songs. The album’s release was followed by the “Synthesis Live” concert tour, a groundbreaking endeavor where the band performed alongside live orchestras for the first time.
Their most recent chapter unfolds in 2021, with the release of their fifth studio album, “The Bitter Truth.” Evanescence’s remarkable journey through music continues, captivating audiences worldwide with their distinctive sound and unwavering passion.
