Carlos Efrén Reyes Rosado, known by his stage name Farruko, is a prominent Puerto Rican rapper and singer, born on May 2, 1991. He gained widespread recognition through collaborations with influential artists such as Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Don Omar, and J Álvarez. Farruko’s journey to stardom commenced in 2010 with the release of his debut solo album, “El Talento del Bloque.”
Career Beginnings (2007–2011):
Farruko embarked on his musical journey in 2009. He attributes much of his early success to the platform Myspace, which allowed him to cultivate a dedicated fan base. This burgeoning fan following ultimately propelled him into the limelight as a celebrated singer. Notably, in 2011, Farruko collaborated with José Feliciano on the track “Su Hija Me Gusta.” As his musical style evolved, he began tailoring his songs to resonate with younger audiences and explore themes of relationships. As his music gained traction online, Puerto Rican radio stations caught wind of the internet buzz, expanding his reach within the reggaeton genre.
Early Music Success (2012–2022):
Farruko’s talent garnered him a nomination for the Latin Grammy Award for Best Urban Music Album in 2012. In the summer of 2014, his hit songs, “Passion Whine” and “6 AM,” both featuring J Balvin, marked a turning point in his career. “6 AM” secured the number one spot, while “Passion Whine” reached second place. “Passion Whine” remained on the Top Latin Songs list, compiled by Monitor Latino, for an impressive 26 consecutive weeks. Furthermore, “6 AM” earned Farruko nominations at Premios Juventud for Best Urban Fusion/Performance and at the 15th Annual Latin Grammy Awards for Best Urban Song.
Farruko’s musical prowess has been showcased in chart-topping singles like “Krippy Kush,” “Inolvidable,” “Quiéreme,” and the remix of “Calma.” His extensive collaboration list includes renowned artists such as Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, Ricky Martin, and Wisin & Yandel.
In 2014, Farruko and his manager, Franklin Martínez, co-founded Carbon Fiber Music, a record label that has flourished, boasting nine signed artists as of 2022.
