Harry Edward Styles, an English singer, and actor, rose to fame as part of the boy band One Direction, which formed during the British music competition series, The X Factor, in 2010. The band, originally composed of members eliminated from solo contests, became one of the best-selling boy groups ever before going on hiatus in 2016.
In 2017, Styles launched his debut solo album, “Harry Styles,” under Columbia Records. This highly successful album topped charts in both the UK and the US, ranking among the world’s top-selling albums that year. Its lead single, “Sign of the Times,” reached the number one spot on the UK Singles Chart. His second album, “Fine Line” (2019), achieved record-breaking first-week sales by an English male artist, and in 2020, it earned a spot on Rolling Stone’s prestigious “500 Greatest Albums of All Time” list. The album’s fourth single, “Watermelon Sugar,” secured the top position on the US Billboard Hot 100.
In 2022, Styles released his third album, “Harry’s House,” which received widespread acclaim and broke numerous records. Notably, it won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2023. The album’s lead single, “As It Was,” emerged as the year’s global number-one song according to Billboard.
Styles boasts an impressive array of accolades, including six Brit Awards, three Grammy Awards, an Ivor Novello Award, and three American Music Awards. He has also ventured into acting, with notable roles in films such as “Dunkirk” (2017), “Don’t Worry Darling,” and “My Policeman” (both 2022). Additionally, Styles is renowned for his distinct and flamboyant fashion sense, and notably, he made history as the first solo man to grace the cover of Vogue magazine.
Born on 1 February 1994 in Redditch, Worcestershire, England, Styles is the son of landlady Anne Twist (née Selley) and finance worker Desmond “Des” Styles. His parents divorced when he was seven years old, and his mother subsequently married John Cox. Later, Styles gained an older stepbrother, Mike, and a stepsister, Amy, through his mother’s marriage to Robin Twist, who sadly passed away from cancer in 2017.
During his childhood, Styles received strong support from his parents and discovered his passion for music. He sang covers on a karaoke machine gifted by his grandfather, and one of his earliest recorded songs was a cover of Elvis Presley’s “The Girl of My Best Friend.” While attending Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School, he served as the lead singer of the band White Eskimo, which won a local Battle of the Bands competition. At the age of 16, Styles also worked part-time at the W. Mandeville Bakery in Holmes Chapel.
