Veteran BBC Midlands Today presenter Nick Owen was honored with an MBE by the Princess Royal at Windsor Castle.
The accolade, announced in June as part of the King’s Birthday Honours List, recognized his outstanding contributions to charity and broadcasting.
Following the ceremony, Owen, 76, expressed his excitement and gratitude, reflecting on a career spanning more than 50 years.
He also shared his personal journey with prostate cancer, a diagnosis he went public with last year.
Initially showing “no symptoms at all,” Owen says his prognosis is now promising and has inspired countless men to get tested.
His openness prompted a tremendous response, with viewers sharing how his advocacy encouraged them—or their loved ones—to seek medical help.
Owen recounted a recent meeting with someone who credited him for encouraging a PSA test that ultimately saved his life.
Known for his warmth on screen, Owen has had a rich broadcasting career, including the popular Good Morning with Anne and Nick in the 1990s with co-host Anne Diamond.
Reflecting on the variety of his work, he remarked on the privilege of interviewing prime ministers, global celebrities, and sports figures.
Beyond broadcasting, Owen has spent three decades supporting causes like the Edward’s Trust, Baby Lifeline, and Prostate Cancer UK, drawing hundreds of congratulatory messages on social media when he received his MBE.
