Cardi B found herself clarifying a controversial line from her latest freestyle, “Like What,” released on Friday.
The track, which samples Missy Elliott’s 1999 hit “She’s A Bitch,” sparked debate among fans due to a bar seemingly dissing the renowned bag brand Coach.
In the freestyle, Cardi spits, “Classy and a cunt / Blocks and money getting spunt / Like, like what? / Like a Coach bag, baby, this ain’t what you want.” However, some listeners interpreted the mention of Coach as a slight against the brand.
Addressing the misunderstanding on Instagram Live, Cardi expressed surprise at the backlash, explaining the cultural context behind the line.

She reminisced about her high school days, where Coach rain boots were a staple, referencing Cam’ron’s 2011 track “Hey Muma” as influential in shifting perceptions of the brand.
“In 2011, everybody started getting rid of their Coach shit. Honest truth, it was really because of Cam’ron,” Cardi revealed, highlighting the impact of the New York rapper’s lyrics.
She said that her mention of Coach in “Like What” was a nod to this cultural shift, contrasting the brand with luxury alternatives like Chanel.
Despite the social media uproar, Coach responded with a tweet expressing affection for Cardi, indicating no ill will. Cardi reciprocated the sentiment with a “love ya” and emojis.
