Chicago rapper PGF Nuk, whose real name is Virgil Gibson, was arrested on charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking after allegedly carrying out two carjackings at gunpoint within a span of 30 minutes.
According to FOX 32 Chicago, the 22-year-old artist first committed an armed carjacking against a 32-year-old man at approximately 11:47 p.m. on Sunday, April 7.
Just 30 minutes later, at 12:15 a.m., he is accused of both carjacking and kidnapping a 35-year-old man. He was subsequently apprehended and charged on Tuesday, April 9, in connection with the incidents.
PGF Nuk is facing two felony counts of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm, along with one felony count each of aggravated unlawful restraint and armed aggravated kidnapping.
This is not PGF Nuk’s first run-in with the law.
The rapper, who is a cousin of fellow Chicago artist Polo G, was previously arrested in August on a felony weapons charge.
According to YouTuber 16ShotEm, PGF Nuk was reportedly found in possession of a switch, a device that can convert a semi-automatic firearm into a fully automatic one, which led to his arrest.
Additionally, he was arrested in November for cannabis possession, according to Chicago’s mugshot registry.
In Illinois, possessing a switch is considered a felony offense under a law signed by Governor JB Pritzker on January 10, 2023.
The law prohibits the sale of assault weapons, high-capacity magazines, and switches, with violators facing up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
PGF Nuk gained recognition with his breakout hit “Waddup,” released in 2022, which garnered over 12 million views on its official video.
In an interview with XXL, PGF Nuk revealed that the song’s concept came to him spontaneously while his girlfriend was cooking, and a recording of him brainstorming the song became a viral sensation.
He was subsequently signed to Alamo Records, home to artists like Lil Durk, and released a full-length album titled “Switch Music” on the label.
Despite his recent success, PGF Nuk stated in the interview that he has been pursuing a career in rap since 2017 and released his first single while still a teenager.
