In a new wave of scandal, music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs finds himself at the center of yet another lawsuit—this time involving Dawn Richard, former star of his hit girl group, Danity Kane. The latest accusations, however, don’t play out in the spotlight of glitzy performances or red carpets but in the dark shadows of alleged abuse behind the scenes.
Dawn Richard, known for her powerful vocals on tracks like “Ride for You,” claims she endured years of inappropriate behavior, from unwanted touching to being forced to work under extreme conditions. According to the lawsuit filed on Sept. 10, Richard paints a shocking picture of Combs’ alleged misconduct, detailing bizarre incidents such as him holding meetings clad only in underwear and ignoring her repeated requests for him to cover up.
Richard’s career with Combs began with the reality show Making the Band, where she earned her spot in Danity Kane in 2004. Fast forward to 2009, and she was now part of Combs’ next project, Diddy – Dirty Money. But behind the glittering lights of fame, Richard says she faced humiliation, alleging Combs pressured her to strip down to her underwear during work sessions and made demeaning comments about her body.
But that’s not all. The singer describes a particularly disturbing 2010 incident where she claims she was locked inside a Bentley by Combs’ bodyguard after a heated confrontation. Only after her father arrived and intervened was she released, with Combs allegedly warning them to think twice before involving the authorities.
In what could only be described as a toxic environment, Richard claims that Combs even suggested a breast augmentation as a Christmas gift—an offer that crossed more boundaries when, according to her, he touched her chest without permission.
For many fans of Diddy’s music empire, this story is another blow to his larger-than-life image. Combs has been denying similar accusations in recent months, with multiple lawsuits and claims stacking up. His ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, made headlines just last November when she filed a sexual abuse and trafficking lawsuit against him, which was swiftly settled. But the bad press didn’t stop there. Surveillance footage from 2016 surfaced this May, showing Combs physically assaulting Cassie in a hotel hallway.
Richard claims to have witnessed abuse against Cassie firsthand, expressing that it was Cassie’s courage that inspired her to come forward. She, too, alleges years of suffering and manipulation that, until recently, had become a normalized part of her life. In her lawsuit, Richard seeks compensation for the emotional and financial toll of these traumatic experiences.
And while the accusations are serious, the drama doesn’t stop there. Combs is also facing a $100 million default judgment from a case involving a Michigan inmate, Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith, who accused him of sexual assault dating back to 1997. Although Combs’ legal team has branded the case as fraudulent, these mounting allegations are far from the kind of entertainment headlines Diddy would have hoped for.
