Dolly Parton is reflecting on her enduring love story with her husband, Carl Dean, as they approach six decades together.
Married since 1966, the couple has kept much of their relationship private, but the country music legend recently shared sweet details about their Christmas traditions and gift-giving philosophy.
“Carl and I have never bought big fancy presents for each other,” Dolly told E! News in a Dec. 5 interview.
Instead, their gifts are thoughtful and practical, reflecting their hobbies and daily lives.
“When I see things through the years that I think he would like, I’ll just collect stuff and give them to him,” the 78-year-old explained.
For Carl, who enjoys working outdoors and in the barn, Dolly often buys tools and equipment.
In return, Carl chooses gifts that align with Dolly’s passions.
“He knows I love to cook when I’m home,” she said.
“He always buys me something for the kitchen—a new pot or pan, or something he’s seen on TV he thinks I might like.”
For the Parton-Dean household, practicality takes precedence over extravagance.
“We just buy practical things. We don’t worry about it, either,” Dolly added.
Despite her busy schedule, Dolly makes it a point to prioritize family during the holidays. “I’ve never missed Christmas,” she shared.
“I try to book all my things beforehand and say, ‘Do not book me, certainly for the week of Christmas, because I need to be home with my family.’”
This year, Dolly plans to spend the season visiting loved ones in East Tennessee and Carl’s family, all while indulging in festive feasts.
“Christmas is a sacred time,” she noted, highlighting the importance of being surrounded by loved ones.
Beyond celebrating the season, Dolly recently released her children’s book, Billy the Kid Comes Home for Christmas, inspired by her dog Billy and her experiences balancing work with family life.
For Dolly and Carl, the simple joys of life—and a commitment to each other—continue to define their remarkable love story.
