Dua Lipa has shared unexpected insights into her personal life, particularly reflecting on a breakup that concluded amicably.
The 28-year-old singer previewed details about her upcoming third studio album, offering fans a glimpse into her evolving emotions and musical direction.
Despite being known for keeping her private life under wraps, Lipa revealed that she is currently single, addressing the complexities of dating as a public figure.
“Dating, I think overall, is just a little confusing. It’s either through friends of friends or people you trust where you can meet new people because [dating] is not really so straightforward when you are, I guess, a public person,” she said.
One of the standout tracks on Lipa’s forthcoming album, described by Spanos as a “dreamy, midtempo track,” offers a contemporary twist on Gwen Stefani’s classic “Cool.”
In the lyrics, Lipa expresses sentiments of self-discovery and maturity in the face of a breakup, singing, “I must have loved you more than I ever knew… I’m not mad/I’m not hurt/You got everything you deserve.”
Reflecting on this particular breakup, Lipa shared, “When you have a feeling like that one, you feel really grown because you’re like, ‘Oh, whoa, I’m such an evolved human being that I can see my ex move on and feel good about it.’
I think I’ve had breakups in my life where I felt like the only kind of breakup you could have was when things just ended really badly. Things ending in a nice way was such a new thing.… It taught me a lot.”
The yet-to-be-titled album is set to feature 11 new songs, including her recent single “Houdini.” Serving as a follow-up to Lipa’s highly successful sophomore effort, Future Nostalgia, released in 2020, the new album promises a departure in lyrical themes, showcasing the artist’s growth and evolving perspectives on relationships.
Dua Lipa is gearing up for the Grammy Awards, where she is nominated in two categories for her Barbie soundtrack hit, “Dance The Night.” Her nominations include Song of the Year and Best Song Written for Visual Media.
