Hollywood actress Eva Longoria has disclosed that her family has left the United States and now splits their time between Mexico and Spain.
In an interview with Marie Claire France for its November issue, Longoria explained the move was prompted by the country’s “changing vibe” following the Covid-19 pandemic, rising homelessness, high taxes in California, and Donald Trump’s re-election.
Acknowledging her privilege, the Desperate Housewives star admitted, “Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country.”
Longoria, a prominent advocate for women and Latinos in Democratic politics, has been actively involved in immigration policy and campaigning for Democratic candidates since 2012.
She delivered a speech at the Democratic National Convention and supported Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign this year with the slogan “She se puede,” a play on Barack Obama’s famous “Yes, we can.”
In the interview, Longoria expressed disappointment over Harris’s recent loss to Trump.
“If he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place,” she remarked, adding that Trump’s 2016 victory had shaken her faith in meritocracy.
Reflecting on her life in Los Angeles, Longoria, a ninth-generation Texan who moved to California in her twenties, said, “It just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”
Longoria rose to fame as Gabrielle Solis in Desperate Housewives, earning a Golden Globe nomination in 2006.
More recently, she has hosted the CNN mini-series Searching for Mexico and Searching for Spain.
Married to José “Pepe” Bastón, president of Mexican broadcaster Televisa, Longoria shares a six-year-old son, Santiago, with him.
Bastón also has three children from a previous marriage.
The family’s move underscores Longoria’s evolving perspective on life, politics, and her priorities in a rapidly changing world.
