The Golden Globe nominations are set to be announced on Monday, marking the first major film ceremony of the awards season.
With no clear frontrunner for the Oscars’ Best Picture on March 2, this year’s race promises to be unpredictable.
US actors Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut will reveal the nominees around 13:15 GMT.
Unlike the Baftas and Oscars, the Globes split their awards into drama and musical/comedy categories, offering six acting slots per category, allowing for a broader range of nominees.
The ceremony will take place on January 5 in Los Angeles.
This year’s top contenders include films like Anora, about a New York stripper’s complex romance with a Russian oligarch’s son, and The Brutalist, centered on a Hungarian architect rebuilding his life in post-WWII America.
Conclave, based on Robert Harris’s novel, delves into Vatican politics as cardinals gather to elect a new Pope.
Blockbuster hits like Wicked, Dune: Part Two, and Gladiator II are also expected to make a splash, boosted by their box office success.
Other notable films in contention include Sing Sing, about prison inmates in a performing arts program, and Emilia Pérez, a musical about a Mexican drug lord undergoing a gender transition.
Historical dramas like September 5, revisiting the 1972 Munich Olympics attack, and Nickel Boys, about a 1960s Florida reform school, also seem poised for recognition.
Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, WWII thriller Blitz, and vampire tale Nosferatu could also secure spots.
The best actress race features potential comebacks for Demi Moore (The Substance), Angelina Jolie (Maria), and Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Hard Truths).
They face tough competition from Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla Sofía Gascón (Emilia Pérez), and breakout star Mikey Madison (Anora).
Other contenders include Fernanda Torres (I’m Still Here) and Nicole Kidman (Babygirl).
Leading the best actor race are Adrien Brody (The Brutalist), Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), and Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), alongside Hollywood heavyweights Daniel Craig (Queer) and Timothée Chalamet (A Complete Unknown).
Jesse Eisenberg (A Real Pain) and John David Washington (The Piano Lesson) may also earn nods.
Supporting roles are crowded with talent, including Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain), Denzel Washington (Gladiator II), and Ariana Grande (Wicked).
In the supporting actress field, Isabella Rossellini (Conclave), Danielle Deadwyler (The Piano Lesson), and Saoirse Ronan (Blitz) are strong contenders.
Star power often influences the Globes, raising chances for Hugh Grant (Heretic), Kate Winslet (Lee), Paul Mescal (Gladiator II), Amy Adams (Nightbitch), and Zendaya (Challengers).
With such a diverse and dynamic lineup, this year’s Golden Globes promise an exciting start to the awards season.
