Jada Pinkett Smith is making headlines again, but this time it’s not for her latest film or TV appearance. The Girls Trip star recently stirred up curiosity by making her Instagram account private following a mysterious and thought-provoking post on September 2.
Her enigmatic message read, “A man can CHOOSE to belong to someone. And if he does… he is considered noble. A woman is told she MUST belong to someone or … she is not worthy.” In her caption, the 52-year-old actress delved deeper, addressing the issue of gender expectations.
Jada wrote, “Even in some of our great religious traditions, the goddess is rendered powerless without her male counterpart. And in others, the spiritual influence of the feminine, of Mother … is not even recognized.” She continued, “We mere mortal women are worthy simply because we exist! And those of us who have cultivated our Queendom within our inner kingdom and have a deep relationship with the Great Supreme … if we so CHOOSE to bond with someone from this space … we will erect monumental love and give birth to treasures.”
Her post ended with a powerful note to her followers, urging them to “not bond in fear” as they embody “greatness.”
Jada, who shares children Jaden, 26, and Willow, 23, with estranged husband Will Smith, has not yet addressed her decision to make her Instagram account private. Over the past year, she has become increasingly open about her personal life, particularly her relationship with Will. The couple revealed last October that they had been separated since 2016 but have no immediate plans to finalize their divorce.
“I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce,” she told NBC News last year. “We will work through whatever, and I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”
Jada has also expressed her appreciation for Will, regardless of their relationship status. “To know that I have someone by my side that, no matter what, is dedicated to learning how to love and learning how to love me, and vice versa,” she said on PRETTYSMART in February, “I don’t know what else you could ask for.”
