A Japanese woman who unexpectedly kissed BTS member Jin at a fan event in Seoul last year is now under investigation by South Korean police for sexual harassment in a public space.
Authorities have urged the woman, who is currently in Japan, to come forward for questioning.
The incident took place during Jin’s first public event after completing his military service on June 13, 2024.
The “hugathon” event saw him embrace 1,000 fans and perform for an audience of 3,000.
However, one fan sparked outrage by appearing to kiss the K-pop star on the face instead of simply hugging him.
Jin, visibly taken aback, turned his head away before moving on to the next fan.
Clips of the moment quickly went viral, with many BTS fans expressing their anger.
One fan even filed a criminal complaint, prompting police to launch an investigation.
The woman later admitted in a blog post that she kissed Jin on the neck, describing his skin as “very soft.”
Though her identity remains undisclosed, South Korean police confirmed that they identified her with the help of Japanese authorities.
BTS’s agency, HYBE, has yet to comment on the situation.
Jin, whose real name is Kim Seok-jin, was the first BTS member to complete his military service, followed by J-Hope in October 2024.
The remaining members—V, RM, Jimin, Jungkook, and Suga—are still serving, with the group expected to reunite in June 2025.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about toxic fan culture in the K-pop industry.
While idols maintain close relationships with their fans through social media and in-person events, the growing issue of overly obsessive “sasaeng fans” has led to increasing discussions about boundaries and respect for artists’ personal space.
