Jennifer Hudson knows how to keep things spicy—even on her talk show! During the Oct. 3 episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show, the Grammy-winning singer put her boyfriend, Common, on the spot about his future marriage plans. And it was all in good fun!
The playful moment came when Jennifer, referring to Common’s earlier hints about tying the knot, jokingly asked, “I heard you’ve been out there talking about marriage.
What’s that about?” With a grin, the Spotlight singer wasn’t about to let her man off the hook without grilling him a bit!
But Common, ever cool under pressure, responded with a smooth and heartfelt answer.
“You told me a quote that your mother said, ‘A man knows what he wants,'” the rapper said, then added with a smile, “If I should be married, it will be to Jennifer Kate Hudson.”
Talk about swoon-worthy! The two have been dating since 2022, and it seems Common is more open than ever about the idea of marriage.
Earlier this year, during an interview on Today, the “Glory” rapper admitted that he’s finally seeing himself as the “marrying type.”
“I’m capable, I have the capacity,” said Common, who shares a 27-year-old daughter, Omoye Assata Lynn, with his ex Kim Jones.
He explained that he’s learned to trust his instincts when it comes to life decisions, including marriage.
“When I feel it in my heart and my spirit, I’ll know it’s the right time,” he shared.
And dating Jennifer, who is mom to 15-year-old David Daniel Otunga Jr. from her previous relationship with David Otunga, has certainly shifted Common’s perspective.
During a July appearance on The Breakfast Club, the rapper revealed, “If I’m going to get married, it’s to her.”
Common also opened up about how their shared Chicago roots and spiritual connection have brought them even closer.
“When you’re with somebody who’s from where you’re from, it’s a different kind of connection, too,” he said.
