In her newly released memoir, Over the Influence, JoJo, whose full name is Joanna Levesque, opens up about a troubling experience from her past. The former teen star recounts a “cold” interaction with a famous singer at MTV’s Total Request Live, though she refrains from naming the artist directly.
JoJo reveals that both she and the unnamed singer were featured on the soundtrack for the 2004 film Shark Tale, leading many to speculate that the singer in question might be Christina Aguilera. When asked in a recent SiriusXM’s TikTok Radio interview whether she wanted to address the rumors about Christina, JoJo did not confirm the identity of the artist but shared her reflections on the incident.
The singer, known for her hit “Leave (Get Out),” expressed that the experience taught her the importance of treating others with kindness and respect. “What feeling the way that this person made me feel taught me is that I just never wanna make anybody feel that way,” JoJo said. “It made me feel like, ‘Oh, you don’t want to meet your idols.’”
Despite the negative experience, JoJo emphasizes that she holds no animosity toward the individual. “There’s no hate in my heart toward this person—nor is this a surprise, I suppose, with other stories that we’ve heard,” she added.
Christina Aguilera has faced similar feud rumors in the past. In 2009, Pink recounted a tense moment from the 2001 collaboration “Lady Marmalade,” which also featured Mýa and Lil’ Kim. Pink described a confrontation with label executive Ron Fair, who reportedly prioritized Aguilera for the song’s prominent parts, leading to a heated exchange.
