Renowned fashion designer Jonathan Anderson has announced his departure as the creative director of Spanish luxury fashion house Loewe after an influential 11-year tenure.
Anderson, originally from Magherafelt in County Londonderry, is also the founder of his own label, JW Anderson, and is celebrated for his innovative, gender-fluid designs.
His work has shaped contemporary fashion, including creating Rihanna’s iconic Super Bowl half-time performance outfit.
Sharing the news on Instagram, Anderson reflected on his time at Loewe, expressing gratitude for those who supported his vision.
“While my own chapter draws to a close, Loewe’s story will continue for many years to come and I will look on with pride,” he wrote.
His departure comes amid significant shifts in the fashion industry, with multiple high-profile resignations and leadership changes at major global brands.
While Anderson has not disclosed his next move, reports suggest he is a strong contender for a top role at Christian Dior.
The New York Times has speculated that Anderson could potentially oversee both men’s and women’s collections at the French fashion house.
Loewe praised Anderson’s leadership, highlighting the “exceptional growth” and “modern vision of luxury fashion and culture” he brought to the brand.
A graduate of the London College of Fashion, Anderson began his career in Prada’s marketing department before launching JW Anderson in 2008.
He took the reins at Loewe in 2013, transforming the historic Spanish leather goods brand into a cutting-edge force in luxury fashion.
His work has earned him multiple accolades, including back-to-back Designer of the Year awards at the Fashion Awards in 2023 and 2024.
Beyond fashion, Anderson has a notable personal background—he is the son of former Ireland rugby captain Willie Anderson.
His next career move remains highly anticipated, as the fashion world watches closely to see where his visionary talent will lead him next.
