Kanye West, now legally known as Ye since 2021, has made a formal request to the music industry to recognize him solely by his new name.
According to TMZ, Ye’s chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, formerly of Breitbart News, issued a letter this week urging streaming platforms, publishers, stores, unions, lyric websites, and others to adopt Ye’s legal name in all references to him.
In the letter, Yiannopoulos emphasized Ye’s global recognition, comparing him to figures like presidents and popes. He stressed that Ye’s decision to change his name was not taken lightly and was made fully, legally, and permanently.
“This is who he is now. His name is Ye,” the letter asserted.
Yiannopoulos further emphasized that Ye’s request is rooted in his desire for full self-determination, asserting that he is simply “a Black man in America who wants the right to full self-determination just like everyone else.”

The request comes over two years after a Los Angeles judge approved Kanye’s petition to legally change his name to Ye in October 2021. Prior to this, in 2018, Kanye hinted at the forthcoming name change on Twitter, stating, “I am YE,” following the release of his album “Ye.”
Explaining the significance of the name change, Kanye previously shared his belief that “ye” is the most commonly used word in the Bible, meaning “you.”
He described the transition from Kanye to Ye as a reflection of humanity’s complexities, stating, “Just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything.”
