A mural honoring Keith Flint, the late frontman of The Prodigy, is set to be restored to its original condition ahead of the sixth anniversary of his passing.
The artwork, created by street artist David ‘Gnasher’ Nash, was spray-painted onto a water tank at Braintree Town FC’s RBMC Stadium, near where Flint lived.
The mural, which depicts the singer with his iconic pierced tongue sticking out, has become a symbolic tribute to the legendary performer since his death in March 2019.
However, after more than five years, the artwork has started to show signs of wear. In response, Nash is set to return to the stadium on Thursday to refresh the design.
Restoring an Iconic Tribute
Nash, who follows Braintree Town FC online, noticed that the mural had begun to flake in certain areas. Despite this, he remains optimistic that the restoration process will take just two to three hours.
“There were a few little bits on the mural that I was not happy with, so I might take them out and add more detail,” Nash said. “Hopefully, I’ve improved as an artist since then, so I’ll tweak it and sharpen it up, but overall, I was quite happy with it.”
The mural, commissioned by Braintree Town FC, has since been viewed by hundreds of fans, with The Prodigy’s hit song “Firestarter” regularly played at home matches in Flint’s memory.
Suicide Prevention Awareness
As part of the restoration event, Nash will be joined by Fay Greaves, known for her appearance on The Traitors, who will be representing Ripple Suicide Prevention—an organization dedicated to mental health awareness.
Braintree Town FC expressed their support for the project, stating:
“Understandably, the mural is showing signs of wear, but Gnasher is returning to smarten the water tank up and bring the mural back to the condition it was in 2019.”
With the upcoming sixth anniversary of Flint’s passing on March 4, the refreshed mural will continue to serve as a fitting tribute to the beloved singer, ensuring his legacy lives on.
