Kendrick Lamar has joinedforces with South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker to commemorate the 100th birthday of the United States with a new comedy film.
According to reports from Variety, the upcoming Paramount Pictures production is set to premiere on the nation’s next Independence Day, July 4, 2025.
The announcement came during Paramount’s CinemaCon presentation, where a sneak peek into the future slate of Paramount films was unveiled.
While specific details about the project remain shrouded in secrecy, Paramount CEO Brian Robbins offered an enticing glimpse into what audiences can expect.
“This script is one of the funniest and most original scripts we’ve ever read, and it’s certain to create some fireworks,” remarked Robbins.
Co-produced by Kendrick Lamar, along with Matt Stone, Trey Parker, and pgLang co-founder Dave Free, the film boasts a screenplay by Vernon Chatman, known for his work on “The Shivering Truth” and “The Heart, She Holler.”
Previous synopses indicate that the movie will follow the story of a Black man who finds himself working as a slave re-enactor at a living history museum. Through his experiences, he discovers that he is a descendant of enslaved individuals once owned by the ancestors of his white girlfriend.
This project marks Lamar’s debut as a major film producer, although the rapper previously showcased his talents in the 2022 short film “We Cry Together,” which he co-produced, co-directed, and starred in. The short film was also featured as a track from Lamar’s album “Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers.”
