Tickets for a Kings of Leon concert in Cardiff have gone on pre-sale, even though the venue’s license has yet to be approved.
The gig is set to take place on June 29, 2025, as part of the debut Blackweir Live event series, hosted at Blackweir Fields, an extension of Bute Park.
Blackweir Fields, which currently accommodates 25,000 people, is proposed to increase its capacity to 35,000 for the events.
Cardiff Council has emphasized that the licensing process will ensure the venue complies with all legal requirements.
The new initiative is a collaboration between Cuffe and Taylor and Cardiff-based DEPOT Live, known for organizing successful events at Cardiff Castle over the past two years.
The Blackweir Live series is expected to host four headline gigs, including the Kings of Leon performance.
Although most of Bute Park will remain open to the public, access to Blackweir Fields will be restricted during the event and for a limited time before and after.
Cardiff Council believes this initiative will enhance the city’s reputation as a prime destination for major artists.
The council reassured the public that early ticket sales, despite pending license approval, are standard practice for such events.
Measures are being implemented to protect Blackweir Fields’ cricket squares from potential damage, using technology proven effective at venues like Old Trafford.
If approved, Blackweir Live could mark a new chapter in Cardiff’s live music scene, further solidifying the city’s cultural prominence.
