Rapper Kodak Black was released from the Miami Federal Detention Center on Wednesday after two months.
According to TMZ, Kodak acknowledged violating the terms of his supervised release by failing to regularly contact his probation officer. U.S. District Judge Jose Martinez opted for a time-served sentence, effectively ending Kodak’s supervised release.
The 26-year-old artist landed in legal trouble in December when he was discovered asleep in an SUV. Charges included possession of oxycodone, evidence tampering, and a traffic violation.
His attorney, Bradford Cohen, contested an allegation of cocaine possession, presenting lab results refuting the claim.
Cohen took further action by addressing a letter to Nick Sortal, Plantation’s mayor in Florida, regarding what he deemed a wrongful cocaine possession charge. He hinted at a potential federal civil rights claim arising from the incident.
While Circuit Court Judge Barbara Duffy dropped the oxycodone possession charge due to evidence supporting Kodak’s prescription, the other charges persisted.
Prior to Kodak’s release, Judge Martinez advised him to “straighten out” his behavior.
However, reports from WPLG Local 10 News allege that Kodak Black hurled rocks at journalists as he exited the jail. The network claims he also threatened veteran reporter Rosh Lowe on the scene.
“I’ve been doing this a long time, and let me tell you, this is one of the strangest things I have ever seen,” Lowe commented during the broadcast, recounting Kodak’s threats.
Meanwhile, Kodak Black is anticipating the arrival of his second child with his girlfriend.
