The final track by Stoke-on-Trent DJ Danny Stubbs, who passed away from cancer in August, has been released as a charity single.
Titled Is This Real, the song’s proceeds will go toward cancer research, celebrating the life and legacy of the Chell Heath native who touched hearts both on and off the dancefloor.
Danny Stubbs began his career in Hanley’s clubs in the early 2000s before earning international acclaim, working with music icons such as U2, Ariana Grande, and Paul Oakenfold.
Known for his passion for music over profit, Stubbs was remembered fondly by his friend and producer Paul Sawyer as “one of the nicest guys you could ever meet within the music industry.”
Stubbs succumbed to oesophageal cancer at 40, spending his final days at St Luke’s Hospice in Winsford. In October, a tribute club night raised over £1,000 for the hospice.
Reflecting on the release of Is This Real, Sawyer shared, “It was the most obvious thing to do—fundraising through his final song.
It brings a tear to your eye when you listen to what everybody has to say about Danny.”
Sawyer hopes the single will climb to the top of the Beatport electronic dance music chart, showcasing Stubbs’ remarkable talent while contributing to a cause close to his heart.
