Lil Wayne is under scrutiny following accusations that he misrepresented his marijuana use to secure a pandemic loan approval.
A recent article by Business Insider revealed that the loans obtained by Lil Wayne and other artists, including Post Malone, in 2021.
The investigation revealed that Wayne and his team purportedly informed the government that they maintained a drug-free workplace and cautioned their staff against drug usage.
Based on these claims, the Small Business Administration (SBA) sanctioned an $8.9 million loan to Young Money Touring Inc.
However, Lil Wayne has long been vocal about his cannabis consumption, prompting Business Insider to launch a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the SBA to scrutinize the loan approval process. In response, the SBA clarified via email how the drug certification process operated.
According to the SBA, the certification process did not encompass Wayne or Post’s “personal actions” or any drug use outside the period from March 2020 to June 2022.
The agency asserted that they are actively reviewing previously approved loans.
“The SBA’s process of monitoring and auditing of grant recipients is actively ongoing,” the agency stated.
“To date, about $40 million has been returned from SVOG grantees, and additional files have been referred for ongoing criminal investigation or civil recovery. To date, none of the recoveries relate to the drug-free certification.”
