Madison Brush, daughter of Sister Wives star Kody Brown and his ex-wife Janelle Brown, recently offered candid insights into her family’s financial struggles before the TLC show launched in 2010.
Speaking on the December 9 episode of her podcast The Authentic Society, the 29-year-old reflected on growing up in a household with limited resources.
“Before the show, we were very poor,” Madison shared.
“My dad made decent money, but we had 15 kids.”
Madison revealed that Kody frequently pursued “get-rich-quick schemes,” which contrasted sharply with the financial discipline her husband Caleb Brush’s family practiced.
“When we got our tax returns when we were younger, my parents immediately spent it on something,” she recalled, noting how different her in-laws were in saving every penny.
Kody, who remains married to Robyn Brown and is currently featured in season 19 of Sister Wives, previously worked as a sign salesman and invested in several ventures that Madison described as “random.”
Money issues weren’t the only source of stress in Madison’s upbringing.
On a previous November 11 podcast episode, she opened up about cutting ties with certain family members, including Kody.
“I have no contact with some of my family, and it’s because of stuff that has happened,” she shared.
“[Kody] doesn’t have any respect for boundaries, and you have to play by his rules, and I just don’t care to do that.”
Madison admitted her direct communication style often clashed with her father’s preferences.
“My dad would get very angry when I would—I’m a straight shooter,” she explained.
“That was one of the reasons I went no contact because he didn’t like a mirror being held up.”
Despite the challenges, Madison has built a stable life with her husband Caleb, with whom she shares three children: Axel (7), Evie (5), and Josephine (22 months).
She is also expecting their fourth child, further solidifying her commitment to building a financially and emotionally secure household.
