Marilyn Monroe’s personal belongings, including love letters, satin robes, and iconic make-up, will be on public display in London this October as part of Marilyn – The Exhibition. The showcase will feature items from the private collection of Ted Stampfer, who owns over 1,500 pieces once belonging to the Hollywood icon.
Set to open on 18 October at Arches London Bridge, the exhibition will highlight key moments from Monroe’s life and career. Visitors can expect to see memorabilia from her London shoots, personal items from her production company, and images of her meeting with Queen Elizabeth II. Several of her most recognizable outfits will also be on display, offering a glimpse into her transformation from Norma Jeane Mortenson to one of Hollywood’s most legendary figures.
In addition to her wardrobe, Monroe’s shoes, make-up, and beauty products will be featured, offering fans an intimate look at the star’s style. Stampfer, the exhibition’s curator, expressed his excitement about bringing his collection to the UK.
“In 1962, after her death, her items were preserved like a time capsule for nearly four decades,” said Stampfer. “It’s wonderful to share these unique pieces, allowing us to get closer to the real Marilyn Monroe and her true identity.”
Even more than 60 years after her passing, Monroe remains a global pop culture icon. Known for her roles as the quintessential “blonde bombshell” in classic films like As Young as You Feel and Monkey Business, she was one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars, with her films grossing over $200 million in the 1940s and 50s.
Monroe was also a trailblazer in the modeling world, being the first cover model and centrefold for Playboy magazine. Her tumultuous personal life, including her three high-profile marriages to James Dougherty, baseball legend Joe DiMaggio, and playwright Arthur Miller, was a constant source of media fascination. Tragically, Monroe died of a drug overdose at the age of 36, with her death ruled as a probable suicide.
Marilyn – The Exhibition promises to offer a rare glimpse into the life of a Hollywood legend whose allure endures through the decades.
