Andrew Stewart, Martha Stewart’s ex-husband, is pushing back against her recent comments about their marriage. Following the release of Martha’s Netflix documentary Martha, where she alleged that both she and Andrew engaged in affairs during their 25-year marriage, Andrew and his wife, Shyla Nelson Stewart, shared their thoughts on moving forward in an Oct. 12 Facebook post.
“Every day, we openly express our gratitude for our love and for our life together,” the couple wrote.
“We both wish everyone, including Martha herself, the experience of loving and being loved deeply and fully, and the peace that comes from such a love.”
Shyla noted that Andrew’s past was marked by struggles, including what she described as a “painful and abusive marriage to Martha.”
She emphasized that while Andrew has moved on, it seems Martha still revisits the relationship publicly, as she has in recent promotional materials for her documentary.
Since his divorce from Martha in 1990, Andrew’s life has been filled with positivity, according to Shyla.
The couple, who married nine years ago, have built a life centered on their devotion to each other, their blended family, and their shared love for nature and meaningful work.
Together, they cherish time with their five adult children, three grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
In the Martha documentary, released on Oct. 25, Martha claimed Andrew had an affair with her assistant, Robyn Fairclough, who he later married in 1993 before their eventual separation.
She also shared her advice on infidelity, urging, “Young women, listen to my advice. If you’re married and your husband starts to cheat on you, he’s a piece of s–t.”
Martha also admitted to her own “very brief affair” with a “very attractive Irish man” during their marriage and described a flirtatious moment on her honeymoon in Europe, which she said was fueled by the emotional atmosphere of an Easter service.
Reflecting on her early romance with Andrew, Martha recalled their intimate beginnings, noting she lost her virginity to him at 19, saying, “He was very aggressive, and I liked it.”
