Mary J. Blige, the iconic rapper, has recently expressed her disinterest in participating in an episode of Verzuz, emphasizing that she has no intention of disrespecting Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, the creators of the show.
In a circulating video clip on social media, the legendary artist conveyed her sentiments, making it clear that she is not enthusiastic about the Verzuz platform.
She began by acknowledging her friendship with Swizz Beatz, referring to him as her friend and brother. She went on to explain her stance on Verzuz, noting that she doesn’t feel the need to prove herself by participating, despite her remarkable catalog of hit records.

“Let me just say this. I love Swizz. That’s my friend, that’s my brother. That’s my people. I just don’t care about no Verzuz. I don’t wanna be up there. And it’s no disrespect. I just don’t care. Like, I don’t need to say I had the hottest– I know I had some of the hottest records. I know I got a crazy catalog,” She stated.
“I mean there’s so many people that have great music out there. I mean, there’s so many women that have just catalogs, you know. So, I don’t like the putting everybody up against each other. I don’t like it, I mean, I could just put my [music] on and just walk away. I could put the What’s The 411 album on and just walk away,” she remarked.
This isn’t the first time Mary J. Blige has declined the opportunity to appear on Verzuz. She expressed similar sentiments during an interview on The Breakfast Club in 2021 saying: “I don’t know what a Verzuz would do for me… I’m not sure what a Verzuz could do for Mary J. Blige right now, but um, right now, it’s not something that’s on the top of my list.” Meanwhile, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland are preparing for the return of the iconic show.
