Mike Dean recently shared insights into his experience opening for The Weeknd during the Canadian singer’s North American tour, shedding light on their collaborative journey and mutual success in the music industry.
In a conversation with Our Generation Music on Thursday (February 22), Dean recounted how the opportunity to open for The Weeknd arose unexpectedly.
During a livestream on Instagram, The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, tuned in and reached out to Dean, suggesting that he should open for him on his U.S. tour last summer.
Dean expressed gratitude for the chance to enhance his performances with production elements and make a memorable impact on stage.
Dean’s association with The Weeknd extends beyond live performances to collaborative music projects. In April, they joined forces on four tracks featured on Dean’s latest project, “4:23,” marking their continued creative partnership. Co-executive produced by The Weeknd, “4:23” represents Dean’s first project since 2020’s “4:22.” The Weeknd not only contributed his vocal prowess to tracks like “Artificial Intelligence,” “Defame Moi,” “More Coke!!,” and “Emotionless,” but also co-wrote “Emotionless.”
The successful collaboration between Dean and The Weeknd builds upon their previous work together, including contributions to The Weeknd’s acclaimed album “Beauty Behind the Madness” and the soundtrack for “Fifty Shades of Grey,” where they collaborated on “Where You Belong.” Their creative synergy has also extended to projects like “Double Fantasy,” a track featuring Future from the HBO series “The Idol.”
